Community & Speaking Events
Below are a few of Alicia’s community initiatives and speaking engagments

“I wanted to start an annual toy drive in which all participants would literally give and receive simultaneously. That’s what makes ‘Cupcakes for Christmas’™ so great.” -Alicia Hadley

Alicia founded Cupcakes for Christmas in 2012. During the toy drive, participants come out to donate new unwrapped toys. In return, they enjoy delicious cupcakes, goodie bags, and fun activities for kids. The cupcakes and goodie bags are donated by local bakeries and establishments. The toy drive not only supports those who are in need, it also creates a fun environment for locals to mingle and businesses to network. Cupcakes for Christmas has been co-sponsored by Macaroni Kid and supported by businesses including but not limited to the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs baseball team, Simon’s St. Charles Mall, Chick-fil-a and the Maryland Independent.

Go Hungry for Haiti

In 2015, Alicia introduced and organized a “Go Hungry for Haiti” youth lock-in. Youth and volunteers completed an 18 hour fast in exchange for monetary donations. All donations were sent to Haiti to benefit hungry children. During the lock-in, youth learned about hunger and things they could do to help the needy. They also completed hunger awareness projects. The video is a commercial produced by a few of the participating youth.

“Don’t Just Sit There…Get Up and Goal!” -Alicia Hadley

During the Get Up and Goal workshop, participants learn concepts from Alicia’s “Get Up and Goal” workbook and “My Simple Book of Goals” journal. They explore:

– The 7 Key Benefits of Goal-Setting
– Steps to Success
– Decision-making techniques and more.

Free items are given to participating students and teachers receive access to free action plan worksheets and motivational textbook covers. These items can be used to encourage students to implement concepts introduced in the workshop. Alicia has also tailored the Get Up and Goal workshop to train adults on helping children achieve their goals.

Aside from the “Get Up and Goal” workshop, Alicia conducts youth seminars and workshops on subject matter including but not limited to self-esteem and peer-pressure.

Speaker at the 2013 National Christian Writer’s Conference

At the 2013 National Christian Writer’s conference, Alicia spoke on the subject of establishing a professional brand. The National Christian Writers Conference (NCWC) is held three times a year in San Diego, California, Orange County, California and in the Maryland — Washington, DC area. As a not-for- profit event the conference is designed to promote literacy and expose writers, authors, music artists and public speakers to the publishing industry. In an effort to empower both children and adults, we invite experienced award winning authors and speakers into the conference to teach our workshops, and seminars.
